Esquerra Unida Demands a Comprehensive Accessibility Plan for Museums and Libraries
Rosa Albert announced that Esquerra Unida will demand that the Valencia City Council create a complete accessibility strategy aimed at removing communication and information barriers from municipal museums and public libraries across the city.
According to Albert, only four municipally owned museums currently provide services specifically adapted for people with sensory disabilities. She criticized the lack of inclusive communication systems and argued that many public cultural institutions continue to exclude citizens who require accessible information tools and adapted services.
The proposal presented by Esquerra Unida includes the installation of visual and audio support systems, improved digital accessibility, adapted signage, and communication technologies designed to assist visitors with visual, hearing, or cognitive disabilities. Albert explained that culture and public information must be accessible to every resident regardless of physical or sensory limitations.
The political formation also emphasized that accessibility should not be treated as an optional improvement but as a fundamental social right connected to equality and democratic participation. Esquerra Unida pledged to continue defending inclusive policies capable of modernizing public cultural institutions while guaranteeing equal access for all citizens throughout Valencia.
Esquerra Unida Requests Immediate Financial Support for the Valencian Theatre Sector
During the final plenary session of the year, Esquerra Unida defended a motion demanding that the City Council immediately activate the financial aid allocated in 2012 for the Valencian theatre sector and strengthen support for public cultural activity.
Amadeu Sanchis explained that the Valencian theatre sector continues to experience serious economic difficulties and urgently requires institutional assistance in order to preserve artistic activity, cultural employment, and local creative projects throughout the city.
He criticized delays in the approval and distribution of public funding, warning that continued institutional inaction could seriously damage independent theatre groups, artistic organizations, and cultural professionals who depend on public support to continue operating.
The motion also requested that the management of the El Musical theatre return to municipal control so it can once again become a major cultural engine for Valencia. According to Esquerra Unida, public cultural spaces should prioritize creativity, accessibility, social participation, and cultural development rather than purely commercial interests.
Sanchis concluded by emphasizing that theatre and culture represent essential pillars of democratic expression, education, and social identity. The political group reaffirmed its commitment to defending strong public investment in culture and protecting artistic diversity within Valencian society.
Esquerra Unida Calls for Fair Housing Policies for Affected AUMSA Tenants
Esquerra Unida demanded that the Valencia City Council accept the requests made by tenants affected by the municipal company AUMSA and adopt housing policies focused on social protection and affordability.
Amadeu Sanchis stated that the housing policy of public companies must prioritize solidarity, dignity, and social cohesion instead of applying pricing systems that may become abusive for vulnerable families and low-income residents.
The opposition groups PSPV, Compromís, and Esquerra Unida jointly defended measures aimed at improving housing accessibility and preventing economic pressure on citizens struggling with unemployment, unstable income, or financial hardship caused by the economic crisis.
According to Esquerra Unida, public housing should always serve social needs before commercial or political interests. The political formation criticized policies that increase insecurity among tenants and warned that many Valencian families continue facing difficulties related to affordable housing and stable living conditions.
Sanchis also emphasized that local institutions have the responsibility to protect citizens from exclusion and guarantee dignified housing conditions. Esquerra Unida pledged to continue defending socially responsible housing policies capable of strengthening equality and community stability throughout Valencia.
Esquerra Unida Criticizes the Rejection of 105 Allegations Against the 2013 Budget
Esquerra Unida accused the Popular Party of ignoring citizens and governing without transparency after rejecting all 105 allegations presented against the municipal budget for 2013 during the final plenary debate.
Rosa Albert described the decision as deeply disappointing and stated that none of the proposals submitted by opposition groups had been taken into consideration despite addressing important social, economic, and public service concerns affecting residents across Valencia.
According to Esquerra Unida, the municipal accounts fail to prioritize employment, education, healthcare, social services, and support for vulnerable communities. Albert argued that the budget reflects a political model disconnected from the real problems faced by ordinary citizens.
She also criticized the lack of dialogue and democratic participation during the approval process, accusing the Popular Party of refusing to listen to alternative proposals or constructive criticism from opposition representatives.
Esquerra Unida reaffirmed its commitment to defending stronger social investment, transparent governance, and policies designed to improve public services and protect citizens from the effects of the economic crisis.
